Parts of a MICROSCOPE

Microscope Work :D

There are 2 types of microscope:
  1. Light microscope
  2. Stereoscope
A light microscope has compound lenses. The lenses bend/refract light to make an object seem bigger. The lenses are usually 40x, 100, 400x

A stereoscope has binocular viewing of larger specimens. The lenses are usually 10x to 20x. It can be used for thicker specimens and has a 3D view.

TAXONS

1. Most genera contain a number of similar species, with the exception of Homo that only contain modern humans
2. Each successive classification category or taxon contains more different types of organisms  than the preceding category

DOMAINS

1.  Archaea and Eubacteria:
They are unicellular prokaryotes ( no nucleus or membrane- bound organelles)
2.  Eukarya are more complex and have a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles

Rules for naming organisms:

  • The international Code for Binomial Nomenclature contains the rules for naming organisms
  • All names must be approved by the International Naming Congress (international zoological Congress)

Classification groups

Taxon: a category into which related organisms are placed

There is a hierarchy of group from broadest to most specific:
  • Domain
  • Kingdom
  • Phylum
  • Class
  • Order
  • Family
  • Genus
  • Species
